INSTALLATIONS

The Self-Destructive Chandelier

Intrigued by the concept of impermanence and visible passage of time, I created an object that cannot be preserved. This project is created by the idea of visible change that happens all around us, and the randomness and unpredictability within the details of a wider pattern.

The initial motivation behind this project was the medium - the fragile, euphonious porcelain. Using its properties to my advantage, I made a self-destructing, solar-powered, melodious installation whose ever-changing form could be witnessed.

The Topsy-Turvy

Named after a poem about a strange land where nothing is normal, this installation is the result of the utter confusion and cultural shock that follows after moving to a place that seems eerily quiet.

Imagine being in a toy store and mistakenly triggering a toy that starts singing and flashing lights and will not stop until it has completed its loop, while you stand there half embarrassed, trying to figure out how to turn it off. That feeling of embarrassment is what I wanted to achieve through this installation of jumbled up wires and lights.

Intervention At The Mosque

Set in a Hujra (chamber) inside the Wazir Khan Mosque and derived from a mosaic panel on the minarets, the installation is inspired the nature of the mosaics as puzzle pieces. The cypress and grape vines being the main subject of the panel are often associated with the plants of paradise in Islamic tradition. The depiction of constellations through light further adds to the idea.

Dubai Expo 2020 - The Pakistan Pavilion

Inspired by the wall paintings inside the Sheesh Mahal, Lahore, Pakistan; these panels were part of the installation in the Pakistan Pavilion.
